Earthquake jolts Rawalpindi, Islamabad & KP districts 

A magnitude 6 earthquake on Sunday shook the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province’s twin capitals of Islamabad and Rawalpindi as well as other territories and several districts.

Early on Sunday morning, a temblor rocked the region, and many ran from their homes in terror and panic to open spaces.

Additionally, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the jolts from the earthquake were felt in the nearby districts of Swat, Peshawar, Buttgram, Upper Dir, Swabi, Mardan, and Kohat.

In the districts of Lower Dir, Buner, Mohmand, and Charsadda in KP, earthquakes were also reported, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the earthquake had a magnitude of six on the Richter scale, with the epicenter located 223 km beneath the surface in the Afghan-Tajikistan border region.

A number of other locations reported to have experienced tremors include Murree, Chiniot, Phalya, Malikwal, Zafarwal, Shakargarh, Jalalpur Bhattian, Sara-e-Alamgir,Sargodha, Hujra Shah Muqeem, Farooqabad, and Faisalabad.

GB area and Bagh and Muzaffarabad in Kashmir were also shaken by the earthquake.

In a statement, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stated that no reports of losses had come into its control room. The PDMA instructed “people to notify the PDMA control room on number 1700.”
