ECP denies PTI’s allegations of rigging electoral lists

Till culmination of polls, no vote could be added or removed, ECP spokesman

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) refused the blames about voters’ registration as unfounded and baseless propaganda whereas Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has once again said that rigging attempts for upcoming by-polls in Punjab were being made.

ECP spokesman Haroon Shinwari has said that after the announcement of the by-polls schedule the electoral rolls had been frozen that could not be changed as per law. He said that till the culmination of polls, no vote could be added or removed.

According to another ECP official quoted in the media, the foreign funding case against PTI has been the cause of the campaign against the ECP and its chief.

On the other side, PTI’s secretary general Asad Umar has said that voters were being illegally registered in other constituencies; further adding that according to law votes cannot be changed after the announcement of elections.

Asad Umar in a press conference said that they had filed petitions on the matter but no action has yet been taken by the electoral watchdog. He said that the votes of those people being shifted whose temporary or permanent addresses do not exist in that constituency.

PTI’s leader alleged that assistant commissioners and district commissioners were involved in the rigging as they have been making direct calls to provincial officials. He also blamed that PTI’s workers were being threatened along with cases registered against them.
