ECP fines PM Khan Rs50,000 over code violation

Lower Dir DMO also imposed fine of Rs50,000 on premier

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday once again imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on Prime Minister Imran Khan for the violation of the code of conduct as he attended a rally in Swat.

Previously, on March 19, Lower Dir’s District Monitoring Officer (DMO) Hameedul Lah fined the premier an amount of Rs50,000 for violation of the code of conduct due to a rally in Dir as well.

Following the violation of the code of conduct, the election commission also slapped a fine of Rs50,000 on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Communication Minister Murad Saeed and two provincial ministers Dr. Amjad Ali and Muhibul Lah.

The ECP had prohibited PM Khan and other public office holders from attending public gatherings in districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the second stage of the local government polls are due. However, the premier has continuously taken part in numerous public gatherings and violated ECP’s warnings.

ECP has also taken notice of PM Khan’s forthcoming visit to Mansehra, terming it a breach of the code of conduct.
