ECP sends Toshakhana reference to trial court

Criminal case against Imran under sections 137, 170, 167 of Election Act has been asked

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has sent the Toshakhana reference to the trial court for the criminal case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan under sections 137, 170 and 167 of the Election Act.

According to ECP, the trial court should try Imran Khan for corrupt practice.

Last month ECP disqualified PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana reference. It had declared that Imran Khan was involved in corrupt practice and he was being disqualified under Article 63-(1)(P) for submitting a false statement. Initiation of criminal action against him was asked.

ECP said that Imran Khan had deliberately submitted wrong statements and did not disclose the gifts received in the returns. It also said that he did not disclose the money received from the sale of gifts in the year 2018-19.

The decision further said that the bank records presented by Imran Khan were not consistent with the value of the gifts and the position he took in his reply was vague. It was also stated that PTI Chairman also hid the facts in the statements for the financial year 2020-21 as a result of which he violated sections 137, 167 and 173 of the Election Act.
