Premier, others issued notices for violating ECP code of conduct for second phase of KPK local body polls

The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday has served another notice to Prime Minister Imran Khan to offer explanation on the allegation of violating the code of conduct for the second phase of local government polls in 18 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

District Monitoring Officer of Malakand Ziaur Rehman issued the notice via the prime minister’s secretary.

The first notice was served to the premier by Malakand’s DMO on March 20 when PM Khan allegedly violated the ECP code by addressing a rally in the district. The Malakand DMO had called on PM Khan to appear in person or via counsel on March 22 and explain his position.

In the second notice, the premier has once again been asked to show up before the DMO on March 24. “In case failure for the second time it will be presumed that you have nothing in defense and your case would be decided in your absence under relevant law, rules and available record,” reads the second notice.

Previously, the DMO of Swat also imposed a Rs50,000 fine each on PM Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, federal Minister for Communication Murad Saeed, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and provincial ministers Dr Amjad and Muhibullah Khan on March 21 for violating the Election Commission of Pakistan’s code of conduct by holding a public gathering in Swat on March 16.
