ECP unable to locate PPP, PML-N funding records

The head of the scrutiny committee notified the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that the panel had trouble locating the PML-N and PPP’s records in the funding case and had not been able to produce a report on the subject.

On Monday, the chief election commissioner observed that the process was being postponed adding that the ECP intended to resolve the funding case.

He requested an interim report from the scrutiny head and stated that the ECP will order the completion of the scrutiny within a certain amount of time.

Regarding the hearing issue, Habib stated that the PML-N and the PPP had been seeking money since 2017, and he regretted the head of the scrutiny committee’s assertion that neither party’s records could be located. He encouraged the ECP to decide on the issue as soon as possible.

PTI leader Farrukh Habib pleaded for the election supervisor to look into the PML-N and PPP funding matter.

He claimed that money and membership fees had been received by the PML-N and PPP in separate accounts, adding that the PML-N accounts needed to be further verified and clarified.

Habib regretted that the head of the scrutiny committee had said that neither party’s records could be located. He requested the ECP to quickly render a decision in the case.

The long-awaited prohibited funding decision was first made public by the ECP on August 2, and PTI was given a show-cause notice to defend its use of the funds.
