ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers across Pakistan are set to receive significant financial relief after the government approved a reduction of Rs1.99 per unit in power tariffs under the quarterly adjustment mechanism.

According to an official notification, the tariff cut has been granted as part of the Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTA) for the period spanning January to March 2026. The reduction will be applicable to electricity bills issued during the three-month period from June to August 2026, providing immediate relief to millions of domestic and commercial consumers.

The notification issued by the relevant authorities stated that the revised tariff will apply to consumers served by power distribution companies nationwide. In addition, customers of K-Electric will also benefit from the reduction, ensuring that consumers across the country receive equal relief under the quarterly adjustment framework.

Officials said the tariff decrease reflects adjustments in power sector costs and is aimed at passing on the financial benefits to end-users. The move comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to ease the burden of rising living expenses and support economic stability.

According to estimates, the reduction will translate into a cumulative relief of approximately Rs67.17 billion for electricity consumers during the implementation period. The savings are expected to lower electricity bills for households as well as businesses, offering some respite from inflationary pressures.

Energy sector experts believe that periodic tariff adjustments play a crucial role in aligning electricity prices with actual power generation and distribution costs. They noted that the latest reduction could help improve consumer confidence and provide short-term relief to both residential and industrial users.
