Elon Musk, the owner of the online platform X, has suggested the possibility of implementing a monthly subscription fee for all users. He cited the reason as the need to combat the presence of bots on the platform.

Since acquiring the site for $44 billion in October last year when it was known as Twitter, Musk has made several significant changes. These include laying off thousands of employees, introducing a paid premium option, reducing content moderation, and reinstating accounts that were previously banned, including that of former US President Donald Trump.

In July, Musk disclosed that the platform had experienced a roughly 50% drop in advertising revenue. X is known for its prevalence of bots, which are automated accounts operated by computer programs rather than humans. These bots are often used to artificially amplify political messages or propagate racial hatred.

Musk’s consideration of a monthly fee for users may be part of efforts to address these challenges and reshape the platform’s dynamics.
