EU aims to restore relations with Israel

After a decade of troubled relations, the Lapid administration has opened the door to rapprochement between Israel and the EU.

According to a politico report, senior political figures from both sides will be meeting in a meeting format known as EU-Israel Association Council, on 3 October Monday to talk about Lapid’s two-state solution with Palestine and to resolve other differences.

“There’s a big hope that the upcoming association council between the EU and Israel will bring … a new wind into our relationship,” Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský told Politico.

He also expressed his hope that the advancement of relations will be one of the highlights of the Czech Republic’s six-month rotating EU presidency.

According to a report, former Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opened the door for the reestablishment of the relationship.

According to reports, several countries, including Sweden and Ireland with pro-Palestinian stance, are still expected to condemn Israel’s Palestinian policies on Monday.
Contrastingly, Israel also has strong supporters in the EU like Hungary, who are expected to show their support for Israel.

The relationship between the EU and Israel went dark in 2013 when Israel cancelled a council meeting in protest of the EU’s stance on Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Since then, the two sides have proceeded to clash over similar issues, as per the report.
