Kabul police chief confirms explosion outside Foreign Ministry

An explosion was reportedly heard in Kabul on Wednesday near the building of Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry. Ambulances arrived at this scene after the explosion.

According to the Russian news agency Sputnik, explosions and shootings could be heard just outside the gates of the foreign ministry.

Local media reports claim that a meeting between the Taliban and Chinese officials was taking place around the time of the explosion.

Kabul Police Chief Khalid Zadran said on Twitter, “Today around 4 pm there was an explosion on the road of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which unfortunately resulted in casualties. Security teams have reached the area, and the details of the incident will be shared later.”
