Eyeing elections, LWMC chief makes ‘illegal’ appointments

At least 47 coordinators appointed in different union councils of Lahore

Focusing on the next elections, Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) chairman has appointed scores of coordinators in the provincial capital in violation of the company’s rules.

This has been revealed in a letter written to LWMC Chairman Atif Chaudhary by a company’s Board of Directors (BOD) member, saying such appointments were illegal.

Earlier, the LWMC chairman had appointed over 40 coordinators in different union councils of Lahore to monitor cleanliness in their respective areas.

A notification of appointment signed by LWMC Chairman said, “For immediate resolution of Public issues, problems and concerns regarding LWMC, the following persons are hereby appointed as coordinators for their respective Union Councils.” Atif Chaudhary appointed at least 11 coordinators in the union councils 363, 364, 365, 366, 367, 368, 370, 371, 372, 374 under the Punjab assembly’s constituency PP-166. Likewise, coordinators have been appointed in six union council of PP-168 and 27 union councils under PP-167.

This has been revealed in the letter of BOD member that the newly appointed coordinators have been involved in corrupt practices rather than looking into the matters of LWMC.

“Coordinators to chairman have been going to various workshops and harassing workers there for several reasons,” the BOD member alleged and added that this will be tantamount to affecting the morale of the workers and consequently affect the excellent work that LWMC had been doing over the past year.

The BOD member told LWMC chairman that this was an illegal act on his end and suggested he withdraw the appointment notifications of the coordinators.

On other hand, sources in LWMC said that Chaudhary appointed the coordinators to serve his personal interests as he plans to contest the next elections from one of provincial assembly’s constituency or NA-133. Meanwhile, LWMC spokesperson told Minute Mirror that the LWMC chairman appointed the coordinators with the aim of bringing betterment in different areas and to keep a check on the efficiency of LWMC. However, he refused to respond to the question about the legality of such appointments.
