Farrukh Habib, Asad Umar denied interim bail by ATC

Court sends suspects to jail in PTI worker’s death case

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday dismissed interim bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Farrukh Habib and Asad Umar in a case registered under charges of vandalism, violence against the police and others.

However, the court extended interim bail of PTI leaders Mian Aslam Iqbal, Dr Yasmin Rashid and Zubair Niazi till April 7 in the same case. ATC Judge Abher Gul Khan heard the bail petitions of the PTI leaders.

Mian Aslam Iqbal, Dr Yasmin Rashid and Zubair Niazi appeared before the court, during the proceedings. Asad Umar’s counsel submitted an application and requested the court to exempt his client from personal appearance for one-day. He submitted that Asad Umar went to Islamabad to join investigations of another case.

However, the court did not allow the application and dismissed interim bail of Asad Umar. The court also dismissed interim bail of PTI leader Farrukh Habib over non-prosecution. The court ordered Mian Aslam Iqbal, Dr Yasmin Rashid and Zubair Niazi to join the investigations and extended their interim bail till April 7. The Shadman police had booked the PTI leaders for vandalism, committing violence and others.

Meanwhile, an ATC on Tuesday sent to jail five suspected of involvement in PTI worker’s death case on 14-day judicial remand.

Earlier, the Race Course police produced the accused, Raja Shakeel, Muhammad Jahanzaib, Umar Farid, Mohsin Shah and Ishtiaq, before ATC Judge Abher Gul Khan on expiry of their 14-day physical remand. The investigation officer pleaded with the court to grant further physical remand of accused, Raja Shakeel, Mohsin Shah and Ishtiaq. He submitted that physical remand of Muhammad Jahanzaib and Umar Farid was not required and requested to send them to jail on judicial remand.

However, the defence counsel opposed the remand plea and requested to send all accused to jail. The court, after hearing arguments of both parties, sent all accused to jail on 14-day judicial remand.

The court ordered the police to produce the accused on expiry of the remand term.

The Race Course police had registered a case against the accused over killing the PTI worker, Ali Bilal alias Zille Shah, in a road accident.
