The federal government has chosen Shahid Ashraf Tarar, a retired grade-22 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), to lead the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).

He had been an FPSC Member starting on January 18, 2021.

Since former FPSC chairman Capt (r) Zahid Saeed retired on December 15, 2022, the seat of FPSC chairman has been vacant.

Due to the extended vacancy, important issues were dealt with significantly later than they should have been, particularly the Central Selection Board meeting, which has been postponed for the past seven months.

The promotion of federal officials in grades 20 and 21 is subject to recommendation by the Central Selection Board.

Shahid Ashraf Tarar will preside over the selection board meetings and assist in facilitating the decision-making process for promotions within the civil service as the new FPSC Chairman.
