FIA arrests 24 amidst malicious campaign against institutions

Anti-Terrorism Wing has registered 19 cases so far

Four special teams of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday arrested two dozen people from 11 cities involved in spreading hate speech on social media against the Pakistan Army.

Officials said these people were running a hateful trend against the Pakistan Army, and added that the FIA Anti-Terrorism Wing had registered 19 cases so far.

Earlier on April 13, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested six more people from different cities on charges of spreading hateful material and inciting hatred against the agencies on social media.

According to officials, it has been decided to prosecute the accused involved in the social media campaign against the institutions under terrorism laws. All the cases were transferred from Cyber Crime Wing to Anti-Terrorism Wing.

Earlier on April 12, the FIA arrested six members of a network involved in a well-organised campaign on social media against the Pakistan Army. According to sources, the accused were arrested from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Multan and Faisalabad who belong to a particular political party.

On the same day, the Formation Commanders Conference had also taken note of the propaganda campaign launched on social media to discredit the Pakistan Army.

The conference, chaired by Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, took notice of the propaganda campaign launched by some quarters on the social media to defame the Pakistan Army as an attempt to create a rift between the people and the institution.
