FIA denies holding Azhar Mashwani

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) denied holding PTI activist Azhar Mashwani in prison in a report delivered to the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz of the LHC Rawalpindi bench heard the habeas corpus plea submitted by Mazharul Hassan, a brother of Azhar Mashwani. A habeas corpus petition is submitted to request the release of a person who is being held against their will.

In their report, the FIA claimed not to know Mashwani’s location. The court, who deemed the report “unsatisfactory” and ordered the FIA to resubmit it, was unconvinced by the report.

The matter’s further hearing was postponed until April 4.

Separately, a Sessions Court dismissed on Tuesday a plea asking for the filing of a prosecution against the alleged kidnapping of Mashwani.

According to a report from the SP complaint cell, the petitioner’s request resulted in the Green Town police station registering a case under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The suit was submitted by Mashwani’s brother, who claimed that while on his way to PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s Zaman Park mansion, his brother was kidnapped by unknown people. In order to lodge the complaint and locate his “abducted” brother, the petitioner had asked the court for permission.
