FIA summons Shah Mehmood Qureshi in ‘cypher audio leaks’ case

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) summoned former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in light of audio leaks regarding the cypher and the decision of the cabinet subcommittee.

On Friday, Qureshi was summoned after FIA Director General Rana Abdul Jabbar formed a five-member investigative team on October 5 to look into the cypher and audio leaks at the Ministry of Interior’s request.

According to local media reports, the team also includes the deputy director of the Counter-Terrorism Wing and the additional director of the FIA Cyber Crime Islamabad.

Similarly, the probe team also included one BS-19 officer from each of the three intelligence agencies.

Qureshi has been asked to appear before the inquiry team on November 1 at 12 pm at the FIA Counter-Terrorism Headquarters in Islamabad.

Media reports suggest that the FIA team questioned the former foreign secretary and provided him with a written questionnaire. He is expected to submit his responses.

The former prime minister’s principal secretary Azam Khan had also received a second summons notice from the FIA for October 28. Khan was out of the country and unable to attend the inquiry.

According to reports, he informed the FIA that he would return home by mid-November and join the investigation.
