Foreign Minister Qureshi says PM to visit Russia on Vladimir Putin’s invitation

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Monday said that Prime Minister Imran Khan would be visiting Russia later during the month.

In a briefing, the foreign minister said that the premier had been invited to Moscow by the Russian President Vladimir Putin. Qureshi termed the invitation “evidence” of progressing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia. He was briefing regarding the prime minister’s recent visit to China and its results.

PM Khan was accompanied by a high level delegation and arrived in the Chinese capital. He attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics and held high level meeting with Chinese leadership.

The foreign minister said that both countries were committed for the swift completion of the second stage of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. He added that Afghan representatives would meet in Beijing near the end of March where a strategy would be worked out.

Qureshi called on the international community to take note of India’s “evil” intentions in order to preserve regional peace and stability.

Imran Khan will be the first Pakistani prime minister to visit Russia in 23 years. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif previously travelled to Moscow following the end of the Cold War.
