Floods damage 20,000 schools

Speaking to the media after a ceremony Career-Connect 2022 at Expo Center in Karachi on Tuesday, Syed Sardar Ali Shah of Education and Literacy disclosed that floods have left as many as 20,000 of the total 39,000 school buildings completely damaged and over 2.8 million students would have to acquire education under trees or in tents.

He said that he had directed the DCs of all 30 districts to get school buildings vacated from flood survivors so that academic activities could be resumed forthwith. Sardar Shah made it clear that he did want to forcibly evict the flood affectees from buildings but they should be given alternate shelters to avoid more embracement conditions since many of their areas in different districts were still under floodwaters. ” School buildings are commonly used as polling stations in during the natural calamities are used as relief camps for months making it joke for education system ” he said and added that school buildings should not be treated as orphanages.

Sardar Shah said that he had already directed the district officers of education department to issue the offer letters to all successful candidates who passed IBA tests and qualified for the vacant posts of teachers in respective districts by October 15 falling which, officials would certainly face the music. He said that he would not compromise on the education of the students who were getting education in government schools of the province. Sardar Shah said that said that it is high time we focus on improvement of education quality in the government-run hospitals. Syed Sardar Ali Shah, wok is also provincial minister for culture, tourism and archives said that damage done to ancient sites like Moenjodaro were being repaired with the cooperation of international organisations including UNESCO.
