Pakistan and the European Union have expressed optimism over recent progress in diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran, voicing hope for a durable and peaceful agreement.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas on Friday. During the call, both sides reviewed the latest developments in US–Iran discussions.

Officials said the two leaders welcomed what they described as “positive momentum” generated through continued diplomatic efforts. They expressed hope that ongoing dialogue would soon lead to a comprehensive and lasting understanding between the two sides.

Both Dar and Kallas reiterated that diplomacy and dialogue remain the only viable path to resolving international disputes. They stressed that peaceful engagement is essential for regional stability and long-term global peace.

The conversation also included an exchange of views on broader regional developments, with both sides agreeing on the importance of sustained diplomatic involvement in conflict resolution.

According to the Foreign Office, the discussion reflected a shared commitment to supporting negotiations and avoiding escalation in already sensitive regional environments.

The call comes amid reports of intensified diplomatic activity between Washington and Tehran. US President Donald Trump recently indicated that a potential agreement with Iran could be finalised soon, possibly within days, although Iranian officials have signalled that no final decision has been reached.

Reports suggest that discussions have focused on easing tensions following months of conflict that disrupted regional stability and significantly impacted global energy markets. The Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route, has remained a central point of concern throughout the crisis.

While Washington has expressed optimism about reaching a breakthrough, Iranian officials have maintained that any agreement must respect their core conditions and national interests.

Iranian spokespersons have confirmed that negotiations are ongoing but stressed that final approval depends on internal decision-making processes. They added that key issues are still under review and no final conclusion has been reached.

The situation in the region has remained tense following earlier military escalations and retaliatory strikes involving Iran, Israel, and US-linked interests. Although a temporary ceasefire was announced earlier, sporadic tensions and diplomatic setbacks have continued to challenge stability.
