Former principal secretary to Nawaz Sharif, Fawad Hasan Fawad, has been appointed to the interim cabinet by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.
The appointment, made under Article 224 (1A), has received approval from President Arif Alvi following Premier Kakar’s recommendation.
During his career, Fawad held significant and sensitive positions both within Pakistan and internationally.
Before retiring, his last role was as director general of the Civil Service Academy in Lahore. He also served as the principal secretary to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Chief Minister of Punjab. Additionally, he held secretary positions in various government offices, including Excise and Taxation, Communication and Works, Health, and S&GAD within the Punjab government. He had also served as Deputy Commissioner in Quetta and Lahore.
Following Nawaz Sharif’s removal from office and his indictment in the Avenfield corruption case, Fawad faced arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for his alleged involvement in the Rs14 billion Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Scheme scam in 2018. However, in February 2023, he was acquitted in the case.
Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi welcomed Fawad Hasan Fawad to the cabinet, expressing his confidence in Fawad’s ability to continue serving the country with his wealth of knowledge and experience.
