Gandapur appointed PTI general secy in KP

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday appointed Ali Amin Gandapur as its secretary general in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). PTI’s central General Secretary Asad Umar, who is also the planning minister, issued a notification in this respect.

In a statement, Gandapur said he was grateful to the prime minister for assigning him important responsibilities. “I will soon start organizing the party in the province,” he said, adding that the PTI would field the best candidates in the second phase of local body elections in KP.

The development comes at the same time as the Islamabad High Court suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to disqualify Umar Amin Gandapur from contesting in the local body elections.

Umar, who is the brother of Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur, was contesting for the mayoral seat of Dera Ismail Khan in the forthcoming second stage of the local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The ECP had earlier barred him from contesting the election and according to local media reports, the commission’s decision was challenged by Umar in the IHC on Tuesday.

The candidate had filed a petition to render ECP’s decision “null and void” because the verdict violated the code of conduct as it was made without a summary inquiry.
