GDA to sit on opposition benches in NA

Member of National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), an ally of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government, has said that GDA members would not resign from the National Assembly (NA) unlike PTI lawmakers.

Replying to a question by this scribe, Dr. Mirza, who was also a federal minister in the Imran Khan-led cabinet, said that she and two other GDA MNAs – Ghous Khan Mehar and Saira Banu – would sit on the opposition benches.

Saira, who attended the NA session earlier in the day, had refused to resign from the reserved seat. She said that it was decided by Pir Sahab Pagaro, the chief of the GDA, not to tender resignations.

Given the current circumstances, Dr. Mirza is the favorite candidate for the slot of the leader of the opposition since the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), which has five seats in the NA, had split into two groups.

Dr. Mirza had also served as the National Assembly speaker. She had won elections on the general seat for five consecutive times.
