Germany, Indonesia laud Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan

COAS calls for global convergence, sincere efforts to avert a looming humanitarian crisis in war-torn country

Special Representative of Germany for Afghanistan and Pakistan (SRAP) Jasper Wieck and Foreign Minister of Indonesia Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi on Saturday held separate meetings with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and appreciated Pakistan’s positive role in Afghanistan, special efforts for border management, and steps for regional stability.

Jasper Wieck and the Gen Bajwa discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security, current situation in Afghanistan and collaboration/partnership in humanitarian measures, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) media release.   Speaking on the occasion, the COAS said that Pakistan valued Germany’s role in global and regional affairs and looked forward to enhance the bilateral relationship. The army chief said the world could not afford to have an unstable Afghanistan, prone to economic collapse. He stressed the need for global convergence and sincere efforts to avert a looming humanitarian catastrophe.  He underscored the importance of peace and reconciliation initiatives in Afghanistan.  The visiting dignitary pledged to play his part to further improve diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels.

Separately, Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi, during a meeting with the COAS, appreciated Pakistan’s role in Afghan and special efforts for border management. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, enhanced defence and security cooperation, regional security, current situation in Afghanistan and collaboration in humanitarian measures were discussed, according to an ISPR statement.

Speaking on the occasion, the COAS said that Pakistan valued Indonesia’s role in global and regional affairs and looked forward to enhance bilateral relationship with the country.  The COAS stressed the urgency for swiftly devising an institutional mechanism for channeling humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan in order to avert a looming humanitarian crisis. He underscored the importance of peace and reconciliation initiatives in Afghanistan. The army chief also emphasised that peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute was essential for stability in South Asia. He reiterated that Pakistan wanted cordial ties with all its neighbours in pursuit of regional peace and prosperity.  The visiting dignitary pledged to play her part for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels.
