A female student has been found dead in the girls hostel at University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF).

The discovery caused a stir in the university and students boycotted classes and gathered outside the hostel.

The body of the deceased student was shifted to Allied Hospital for postmortem and the report would be received after 24 hours. The deceased’s body was found at the girls hostel on Monday.

Upon receiving the report of the incident, police reached the spot and transferred the body to the mortuary unit of Allied Hospital. However, the student’s heirs, who arrived at the hospital, refused to allow her body to be taken inside the mortuary unit for autopsy.

Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Gulbar Circle said that wheat pellets were recovered from the student’s hostel and a suicide investigation was being carried out.

The heirs of the student said that she had been suffering from depression for the last several days and they did not want an autopsy on her body and would not take any action in this regard. However, after the intervention of the police, they agreed to have the autopsy done.

A spokesman for the university said that the student’s death was being probed.
