Gladiator sequel to hit theatres after 23 years

The highly renowned movie Gladiator is finally making a sequel and coming to theatres after 23 long years. The acclaimed director Ridley Scott is reportedly preparing to give viewers another mind-blowing masterpiece, according to Deadline.

When the first Gladiator movie debuted in theatres in 2000, it immediately became a smashing success. It also scored a big win at the Oscars, taking home five awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe, the movie’s star and leading man.

Paul Mescal, a new but familiar face, plays the lead in the new movie. The Irish actor is most known for his parts in the critically acclaimed 2022 film Aftersun and the Hulu limited series Normal People. Mescal’s first significant role in a major studio film, Gladiator 2, will help launch his acting career to a new level.

Mescal will play Lucius, the nephew of Phoenix’s Commodus from the first movie and the child of Connie Nielsen’s Lucilla, although most of the sequel’s specifics are still being kept under wraps.

After Maximus’ victory in the first movie, which ensured the safety of Lucius and Lucilla, Lucius will continue the plot as an adult and confront new difficulties in his life.
