Govt form new JIT to probe Arshad Sharif’s death

The federal government has made a new JIT on the order Supreme Court and has shared the names with Supreme Court to investigate the death of Journalist Arshad Sharif.

Apex Court earlier rejected the JIT made by the Federal and ordered the formation of an independent JIT to probe the case.

The new JIT made by the supreme court includes DIG Islamabad Owais Ahmed, Director Cybercrime FIA Waqaruddin Syed, Sajid Kayani from Intelligence Bureau, Murtaza Afzal from Military Intelligence, and Mohammad Aslam from Inter-Services Intelligence.

Chief Justice Pakistan Umar Bandial said, “We have received the response from the Foreign Office.

According to Interior Ministry, the cabinet has asked the foreign minister to contact his Kenyan counterpart.”

He also added that before conducting inquiries, the court does not want to become involved in administrative matters.

Chaudhry Amir Rehman, the Additional Attorney General (AAG), informed the bench that the JIT would first take the mother of the murdered journalist’s statement before beginning its inquiry into the murder.

The AAG continued further said that the JIT will interview all key individuals in Pakistan before launching its investigations there to which CJP told him to approach the Supreme Court in case of any hurdle in the investigation.

Regarding the duration of the investigation, AAG said that it depends on the level of cooperation by Kenyan police.

Supreme Court also ordered to progress and submit the report as soon as possible.
