Govt will comply if President asks for confidence vote: Tarar

Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar stated on Tuesday that the government would agree if President Arif Alvi requested that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif seek a vote of confidence.

The law minister while talking to a local media outlet reaffirmed that the elections would take place on schedule while stating that the coalition partners were solidly behind PM Shehbaz.

In response to a query about a vote of confidence, Tarar noted that the Speaker of the National Assembly and the leader of the House decide on the date of the vote at the right time.

According to the minister, extending the term of the caretaker administration is a legal matter, not a political one. “If all goes as planned, Punjab will have elections in 90 days.”

He added that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had instructed the party to begin election preparations and that a parliamentary board will soon be established to assign tickets to candidates.
