ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s agricultural sector is witnessing renewed momentum as the Green Pakistan Initiative accelerates corporate farming projects aimed at transforming barren land into productive farmland through modern agricultural practices.

According to Arsalan Alawala, a representative of Techno Agri & Foods, the Green Pakistan Initiative’s land reform framework has enabled corporate groups to actively contribute to the revival of the rural economy while promoting sustainable agricultural development.

He said the company has launched a corporate farming project spanning 950 acres near Khushab and Mianwali. The initiative focuses on converting previously uncultivated land into fertile farmland by using advanced farming techniques to boost agricultural productivity.

Alawala noted that Pakistan has significant potential to reclaim its vast stretches of barren land and compete with leading agricultural nations by adopting modern technologies. He added that Rhodes grass is currently being cultivated on a 260-acre block using a central pivot irrigation system, with the crop expected to generate valuable foreign exchange through exports.

He further revealed that the ongoing 950-acre pilot project is planned to expand to 5,000 acres in the next phase, with further growth envisioned in the future. He emphasized that the Green Pakistan Initiative has created opportunities for corporate investment in the rural economy, which is expected to add substantial long-term value to Pakistan’s agricultural sector.
