Haleem Adil Sheikh taken into custody from Lahore Hotel

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Haleem Adil Sheikh was taken into custody by unidentified people from Lahore late at night and transferred to an unknown location.

The media has reported that the lawyers of Haleem Adil have filed a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking the release of their client.

Sheikh, who is also the opposition leader in the provincial assembly of Sindh, was arrested from a hotel in Lahore. However, the police have not yet confirmed the arrest.

The PTI leader’s daughter, Ayesha Haleem Adil Sheikh, had tweeted that her father was taken into custody by men in civilian clothing at 3:30am. She also shared CCTV footage of the hotel wherein a double-cabin vehicle is visible in which civil-dressed men were present who took Sheikh away.

Ayesha in her tweet questioned whether there was any institution in the country that could tell her where her father was taken?

Former governor of Sindh and PTI leader Imran Ismail said that the detention was not revealed anywhere. He warned that if any harm came to Sheikh, the provincial government of Sindh would be responsible.

Opposition leader of Sindh assembly in June had written a letter to the chief justice of Pakistan, Umar Ata Bandial, in which he highlighted threats to his life from Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) leadership.
