Heavy rains cause landslides and casualties in Skardu

Three people lost their lives, and two others were injured as a result of landslides near Skardu in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) due to heavy rains. Among the deceased are a mother and her child, while the injured father was taken to the hospital after being trapped under the debris for a considerable time.

Rescue authorities managed to rescue another person who was trapped beneath the mountainous terrain.

Skardu has been experiencing continuous rainfall for several days, and there are ongoing flood situations in Chilas and Diamer.

Furthermore, across the country, 13 people lost their lives in various incidents caused by heavy rainfall yesterday. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of thunderstorms and heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds in many regions.

In Balochistan, recent monsoon rains caused human and material losses in Awaran, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, and Khuzdar, resulting in six deaths and the destruction of four houses. The floodwaters also swept away livestock in the region.

In Sindh, Musladdahar rains were reported in Jacobabad, Shikarpur, and Gwadar, while Karachi experienced occasional light rain and drizzles yesterday.
