Hina Parvez Butt, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has made the decision to report the assault in London to the police and file charges against those responsible today (Tuesday).
On a private family outing in London, the former MPA was subjected to abuse from a group of people who were, presumably, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters. The PTI supporters ridiculed and heckled her.
Twitterati strongly condemned the assault in the video, which showed the attackers slamming a bottle and insults at Butt.
The PML-N leader has made the decision to file a lawsuit in response to the incident. The fact that Butt was with her son when she was attacked should be underlined.
Another footage of the incident showed a member of the mob brandishing a PTI flag and cursing at Butt while her son was visibly upset.
Butt lashed out at her attackers on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday, writing: “Rude and unruly PTI people have stooped to the point of assaulting me in front of my son in London, throwing bottles at me and yelling nasty abuse at me.
“Are these uncivilized people enhancing or lowering Pakistan’s reputation?”
Condemnations of the act were proffered on social media as the video gained popularity. Despite any political issues that one may have, many users believed that such actions went too far.
Politicians and journalists were among the users of the micro blogging site who harshly denounced the occurrence.
This is not the first time that this has happened; in September of last year, the former information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb also faced heckling in a coffee shop.
