According to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, credible information supports his claim that Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was behind the violence and vandalism on May 9 because audio recordings of his voice giving the orders to attack military installations were found.

On Wednesday, the minister made this statement while participating in a TV programme. He stated that the courts will be urged to conduct in-camera sessions on the discussions of the former prime minister owing to the nature of such chats.

The interior minister claimed that over the course of the previous year, the PTI chairman developed a plan in Zaman Park, his residence in Lahore, and ordered assaults against the defence establishments and other state sites.

He claimed that if the former prime minister was not the mastermind behind the events on May 9, then it should be revealed who was responsible for the unrest and violence that day.

Sanaullah continued by claiming that the PTI leader has been preparing acts of civil disobedience against the government for the last ten years. He questioned, “Who released detained suspects from police holding facilities in 2014, who publicly discussed hanging police officers, and who attacked PTV.”

He claimed that if the parliament had been viewed as a state symbol at the time, this day would not have occurred.

Minister stated that only 200–400 persons were responsible for the attacks. In Zaman Park, he said, they had received specialized instruction in constructing petrol bombs and using slingshots.
