NEW DELHI: A newly married couple in India has landed in divorce proceedings after what was meant to be a romantic honeymoon turned into a family trip, according to local media reports.

The couple, from Patel Nagar in India’s capital New Delhi, had only recently tied the knot when they set off for their honeymoon. However, the trip reportedly took an unexpected turn when the groom brought along his parents and siblings, leaving little space for privacy between the newlyweds.

The bride later approached a counselling centre, stating that the purpose of a honeymoon is to allow a couple to bond and build their relationship, but the constant presence of extended family members prevented any meaningful time together with her husband.

The husband, however, defended his decision, saying he wanted to include his family so that everyone could share in the joy of the occasion. He maintained that there was nothing inappropriate about travelling together with his parents and siblings.

The disagreement escalated to the point where the bride sought divorce, leading both families into counselling sessions. Despite multiple attempts at reconciliation, the dispute remains unresolved, with counsellors giving the couple additional time to reconsider their future.

What was intended to be the start of a new chapter has now turned into a strained legal and emotional standoff, as both sides remain firm in their positions.
