Hundreds protest alleged desecration of Holy Quran

Several hundred enraged people took to the streets in Hyderabad city on Sunday to register their protest against the alleged desecration of Holy Quran by some miscreants in the heart of the city.

The leaders of several hundred infuriated people tried to break open the door of some suspects. Police personnel were deployed to calm down the tense situation and had to use teargas to disperse the crowd. During their violent demonstration, the protesters attacked and ransacked properties, including a shop, in the centre of the town and demanded early arrest of the suspect, who, according to them, had deliberately desecrated the holy book.

Rangers were also called out to help control the situation in the second biggest town of the province. Credible sources said that police parties after the chaotic situation arrested a suspect Ashok Kumar allegedly involved in the ugly incident. Hyderabad Amjad SSP Ahmed Shaikh said that an FIR under sections 34 and 295-B was registered against him at the Cantt Police Station. Officials claimed that the situation was under control after SSP Shaik, DC Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, and others held successful talks with the protest leaders.
