IHC approached to file case against Gen Bajwa, two journalists

A petition has been filed with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) asking for the registration of a criminal case against general retired Qamar Javed Bajwa, the former director general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Faiz Hameed, and two journalists for making specific revelations during an interview.

However, the IHC’s registrar’s office objected to the appeal and urged the petitioner to first contact the proper forum.

In his petition, Atif Ali argued that Gen. Bajwa’s interview was conducted recklessly and that the journalists, Javed Chaudhry and Shahid Maitla, lacked responsibility in publishing the results.

According to the petition, the interview’s disclosures violated the Official Secrets Act and amounted to inciting mutiny and discord.

It asked the court to give the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) director general instructions to file a police report against Gen. Bajwa, Gen. Faiz, and the two journalists.

Additionally, it asked for guidance from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on how to prohibit these two journalists from working.
