IHC approves Swati’s bail in controversial tweet case

The Islamabad High Court on Monday has approved Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and Senator Azam Swati’s bail in a controversial tweet case.

The plea was heard by Chief Justice Amir Farooq in which he announced the verdict that was reserved earlier today i.e. granting Azam Swati bail.

The bail had been approved against surety bonds of Rs 200,000.

Concerning the case brought against him, Swati submitted a petition to the IHC requesting his release on bail however, Judge Azam Khan of the trial court rejected the senator’s initial plea on December 21 because he believed he had committed the same crime twice.

The senator said in his application that he didn’t criticize any institutions online.

He further said that despite an inquiry, the prosecution had no evidence to use against him.

Since his arrest on November 27 for using derogatory language about senior military figures, including former army head General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, Swati had been imprisoned.

The elderly Senator insulted Bajwa with profanities.
