IHC deems Qureshi, Ejaz and Maleeka’s arrests illegal

ATC orders release of Imran Ismail after police declare him innocent

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has deemed the arrests of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Maleeka Bukhari and Senator Ejaz Chaudhry as illegal. The ATC has ordered release of former Governor Sindh Imran Ismail.

The arrests of PTI officials Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Ejaz Chaudhry, and former party member Maleeka Bokhari under the Maintenance of Public Order Act (MPO) have been deemed “illegal” by the Islamabad High Court in separate rulings.

The district magistrate’s detention order was overturned by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb’s rulings because it was “not compliant with the law […],” according to the findings, which said that “detailed reasons to be recorded later, the instant writ petition is allowed.”

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday ordered the release of former Governor Sindh and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Ismail after he was declared innocent by the police.

Police had arrested Imran Ismail, who is in jail on judicial remand, in a case of arson and inciting violence.

However, the report submitted by the investigating officer today said that no evidence was found against Imran Ismail.

Accepting the report of the police declaring Imran Ismail innocent, the court ordered the release of Imran Ismail.

The court ordered Imran Ismail to submit a personal bond of Rs 50,000, besides issuing a release order of Imran Ismail.
