IHC denies PTI leadership’s blanket protection bail plea

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leadership was not given blanket protection by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in any of the first information reports (FIRs) filed in the federal capital.

The Secretary General of the PTI Asad Umar and others filed a plea with the IHC Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb asking for information on all the charges brought against the leadership of political parties. The judge dismissed the petition and instructed the petitioners to seek the proper relief from the appropriate court.

The PTI leadership requested information on all FIRs filed against party officials in a plea to the IHC. They also asked for the court’s protection in all such matters.

The DSP (Legal) Islamabad police submitted a record of every case that has been filed in the Islamabad Capital Territory against each of the petitioners in accordance to the IHC’s directive. The list also includes the FIR numbers, registration date, and police station where they were lodged. This list was created by the court and is part of the record.

The court stated, “The petitioners are at liberty to request for bail from the Court of Competent Jurisdiction, now that the information sought by the petitioners has been entered on the record,” adding, “The instant petition stand disposed of in the above terms.”

The petitioner’s attorney, Advocate Babar Awan, said before the court that the current administration was accusing the PTI leadership of being involved in fabricated and baseless cases. He asked the court to call the police to testify on every FIR. Additionally, he asked the court to exonerate the PTI leadership in all FIRs.

While the court did not agree with this request, it did offer to grant the petitioners protection bail so they may obtain bail before the appropriate court.
