IHC dismisses contempt of court case against Imran Khan

Imran going to woman judge for apology was good step which showed positive intent, says court

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has dismissed a contempt of court notice against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for threatening a judge.

Five judges of the IHC have unanimously decided that they agree with Imran Khan’s reply and conduct.

The court noted that Imran Khan going to the woman judge’s court for apology was a good step which showed his positive intent.

The hearing of the contempt of court case against Imran Khan was scheduled at 2:30 pm, but Imran Khan reached the court a few minutes late, according to media reports.

A five-member larger bench headed by Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minallah, while discharging the contempt of court notice against Imran Khan, remarked that Imran Khan’s affidavit has been seen and they were satisfied with Khan’s conduct. Imran Khan proved good faith and went to the judge to apologize, the court noted.

The IHC had decided not to indict Imran Khan in the contempt of court case against him during the previous hearing.

IHC had asked Imran Khan to submit a written affidavit and adjourned the hearing till October 3.

At the previous hearing on September 8, Imran Khan’s reaction was deemed “unsatisfactory”, and the IHC made the decision to indict the former prime minister [today] since he had not offered a full apology.

Khan received a show-cause notice on August 23 from a larger bench of the IHC after they initiated contempt of court proceedings against him for threatening an additional session’s judge during the demonstration.

On August 20, the PTI chairman held a rally in the nation’s capital to show support for his chief of staff Shahbaz Gill following allegations of torture committed against him while he was being held.

He threatened to file proceedings against the Islamabad inspector general and deputy inspector general for allegedly torturing Gill, saying that he would “not spare” them.
