The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi and former federal minister Asad Umar in a case related to May 9.

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri heard the bail petition of Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Asad Umar, while Sher Afzal Marwat appeared on behalf of Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s lawyer Ali Bukhari and Asad Umar.

The prosecutor requested to hear the cases of Shah Mehmood, Asad Umar and Asad Qaiser together on the next hearing.

Justice Tariq Jahangiri remarked that it is a separate case and its hearing has nothing to do with this case.

When the public prosecutor objected to the petitions of Asad Umar and Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the court said that the petitioners are responsible only to their extent, what is their relationship with the co-accused.

During the hearing, the judge told the public prosecutor that you first said that both of them gave a call for protest at the behest of Imran Khan, but then said that both of them gave statements; you did not make this allegation.

After hearing the lawyers, the court granted bail to Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Asad Umar.

It may be recalled that both the leaders had approached the Islamabad High Court after a local court in Islamabad rejected their bail applications in the related cases on May 9.
