IHC invalidates petition seeking PM Khan’s disqualification

IHC asks petitioner to tell MNA of his constituency to file petition instead

The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday has affirmed the petition which sought the disqualification of Prime Minister Imran Khan as invalid.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the petition which was filed by a citizen from Lakki Marwat, Fidaullah.

The petition stated that PM Khan had said that 15 MNAs sold their votes after the Senate election. It added that Interior Minister Shiekh Rashid backed the prime minister’s statement.

The petitioner argued that he had sought the premier’s disqualification on the basis of the statement.

In reply, Justice Minallah told the petitioner to ask the MNA of his constituency to file a petition regarding the matter instead.

Last year, the IHC rejected a writ petition that also sought PM Khan’s disqualification after the petitioner revoked the case.

A bench, comprising Justice Minallah and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, heard the petition which was lodged in relation to Sita White.

Similarly in 2018, another case was filed against the premier for not proclaiming Tyrian White as his daughter in his nomination papers.

The petition argued that PM Khan be disqualified under the Constitution of Pakistan’s Article 62(i)(f). The petition said that the premier provided incorrect information and could no longer be considered ‘sadiq’ and ‘ameen’.
