IHC seeks report on contempt proceedings against Imran Khan

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday ordered the relevant authorities to submit a security report regarding the incident, which caused law and order issue in the federal capital, of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s visit to the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) last week.

Chief Judge (CJ) IHC Justice Aamer Farooq presided over the hearing regarding a contempt of court petition against Imran Khan.

PTI Chairman was reportedly given a court injunction not to stir up a law and order crisis but Assistant Commissioner claimed that Imran disobeyed the directive.

PTI workers pelted stones at the police stationed outside the FJC which had made security preparations in compliance with court orders. As a result, several law enforcement officers were hurt, the AC claimed.

The IHC today directed the IG of Islamabad and other relevant local government officials to submit a report on the events of March 18.

The court postponed the trial until April 7 and combined it with another case being handled by the IHC that is looking into the disappearance of the Toshakhana case file.

Last week, police and Imran’s supporters clashed for many hours as the PTI leader was traveling to Justice Zafar Iqbal’s court.

Imran was permitted by the court to sign his paperwork from his car, which was parked outside the courthouse where his indictment was to be determined, despite the confusion.
