Imam-ul-Haq backs Pakistan to reach top ODI ranking

Opener Imam-ul-Haq stated that while individual player rankings are good, the objective is to elevate the team to the top spot.

Imam, who is presently placed third in the ICC rankings for batters, stated that the team’s goal is to whitewash New Zealand in the forthcoming five-match ODI series to claim the top spot.

He said that “ODIs and T20Is differ from one another. We have won nine out of the previous 12 One-Day Internationals.”

“Our attention is on the performance of the team. Babar is ranked first, and I’m number three in the ODI rankings, but our team’s standing isn’t great. To elevate our team to the top, we hope to win this series 5-0. For the time being, that is the aim,” he continued.

Pakistan is presently ranked sixth in the ICC Men’s Team Rankings. They will be the best team in the world if they defeat New Zealand 5-0. It should be mentioned that Pakistan and New Zealand drew 2-2 in their five-match T20I series.

Pakistan will play at least eight ODIs this year, including the forthcoming home series against New Zealand that begins on April 27 in Rawalpindi, before the Asia Cup and ICC World Cup.

“The World Cup is coming up soon, and we need to sprint through our preparations”. Imam emphasized that this series is crucial for World Cup preparations.

“We won’t play as many ODIs before the World Cup, but we’ll still make an effort to prepare. In the Asia Cup and World Cup, we want to play competitive cricket.”

Imam declared that representing Pakistan at the World Cup in India will be a memorable experience for him. “The only aim I have for that is to win games for my team; I haven’t set any personal goals for that.”
