IMF should not object to cheap fuel program, says Musadik Malik

Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik has said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) should not object to the cheap fuel program.

In a statement on the media, Musadik Malik said that fuel was being made expensive for the rich and cheaper for the poor and there will be no subsidy on this program.

He said that there were 20 million motorcycles on the roads in the country. The ministers said that only the motorcycles and 800cc vehicles will benefit from the scheme.

He added that 420 million liters of petrol will be used monthly on motorcycles and 461 million liters of fuel was estimated to be used monthly for motorcycles including vehicles.

Musadik Malik further said, “IMF should not object to the cheap fuel program, work is being done on the program to provide Rs100 per liter relief to the poor man, direct relief on the fuel card and relief through the code has been reviewed. We consider the supply of fuel through the code as the best option.”
