Imran implores SC to take notice of upset in Punjab

PTI chairman calls for peaceful protest against outcome of run-off election of chief minister

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Friday strongly rejected the ruling of Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari, and asked the Supreme Court to take notice, as the events that took in the provincial assembly violated the apex court’s decision regarding interpretation of Article-63 of the constitution.

The former premier also urged the masses to take to the streets to stage a ‘peaceful’ protest, besides asking them to run social media campaigns and convey their messages to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) that the people were not cattle.

“I ask for peaceful protest. Take to the streets and record your protest,” Imran said while addressing the people, especially the youth, in a press conference. He said that he was still in shock to see the situation in the Punjab Assembly. He said democracy was based on ‘morality’ and the parliamentary system was also based on it. He lashed out at the PML-N and the PPP leadership, accusing them of indulging in political horse-trading.

Imran stated that the Sindh House became a ‘market’ and everyone, including children, saw the lawmakers being purchased. He accused PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari of “buying lawmakers” ahead of the run-off election of the Punjab chief minister. “Today’s was a run-off election and yesterday night he [the buyer] came in and we knew he (Zardari) was spending public money … and uses money in every election,” Imran said, adding that the PTI was well aware of his designs.

In the Senate, the MPAs were bought and the son of Yousaf Raza Gilani was caught ‘red-handed’ while committing corruption, he recalled.
