Imran Khan and horse trading

In another leaked audio, former prime minister Imran Khan and PTI leaders Shireen Mazari and Asad Umar can be heard talking about the cipher. This audio is an addition to the previous audio that was leaked, which contained Imran Khan instructing Azam Khan, his principal secretary, to play up with the communication from the Pakistani embassy in the US. In this audio, Khan is talking about how the public is upset and agitated and how PTI can use this for their own good.

Khan and his team also talked about how the conspiracy created by them had an international impact, as China released an official statement saying that US involvement in the overthrowing of foreign governments is highly inappropriate. Moreover, Khan talked about how they must paint the others as traitors so that the public supports only the PTI. In both audios, the conversation had a similar agenda, except that in the second one, the voice of Shireen Mazari can also be heard.

Many are saying that the audios are not real and that they have been carefully crafted by joining different words and sentences that the leaders have spoken over the years. The first audio seems to be quite legitimate as a proper conversation can be heard, while the second does seem to be doctored as there is no flow of conversation and one person is talking over the other. There is no back and forth conversation, just some sentences that can be heard in the voices of different people. This may only be another one of the many conspiracy theories as Pakistan does not lack those. However, if this is the case, then the current government or whoever is behind it is playing dirty.

If, however, the audios are not doctored and are actually recordings from the office of the sitting prime minister at the time, then another issue is at hand. If a sitting prime minister is not safe from some lowly hacker who can record and publish sensitive conversations, then no one in Pakistan is safe. Although what the former prime minister and his aides were hatching in the office was highly inappropriate, especially coming from someone who had put on the guise of Sadiq and Ameen, this is a national security issue. The government should focus on making all high-profile people safe from such threats, as this could lead to disastrous effects for the country, especially if the information is sold to foreign forces.
