Imran Khan granted pre-arrest bail in 10 cases by court

Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister Imran Khan has been granted pre-arrest bail in 10 cases in relation to incidents of violence on May 25.

A session court of Islamabad did the hearing on the cases related to violence and PTI long march.

Imran Khan attended the hearing to plea for bail in the cases in the court of Judge Kamran Basharat Mufti. Babar Awan and Shahbaz Gill were also accompanied by the ex-premier.

Imran had applied for pre-arrest bail in 15 FIRs registered against him at 11 police stations in Islamabad. His counsel Babar Awan during the hearing said that his client had been booked in 15 cases of the same nature. The judge after finding no objection from the prosecutor granted bail in 10 cases.

The court also granted interim bail in another case under sections of treason at the Kohsar police station.

The court directed the PTI Chairman to deposit a security challan of Rs5000 after which he was granted bail till the first week of September.

During the court’s proceedings, police were ordered to bring the details of case 425 in the next hearing.

An FIR was registered on May 26 at the Kohsar police station at the complaint of Sub-Inspector Asif Raza under Sections 109 (abetment), 148 (rioting armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 186 (obstructing public service), 188 (disobedience), 353 (assault on public servant), 427 (causing damage) and 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Raza also said that 36 individuals, who were acting at the behest of Imran and other PTI leadership were brought under control.

Earlier on July 25, Lahore’s anti-terrorism court (ATC) also extended the interim bail of PTI leaders in a vandalism case related to the May 25 long march.
