Imran Khan needs to revisit his policies

No doubt Imran Khan is the most popular leader of today, but his politics is beyond the comprehension of political analysts. Just consider his latest move: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI’s) members, whose resignation from the National Assembly were accepted, now tells the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that the speaker of the National Assembly had considered their “en masse letters” as resignations and denitrified their MNA status. In other words, they are withdrawing their resignation, which they had gladly submitted to their leader in April last.

Imran Khan is a defeated politician trying to regain his former glory by using all the tactics he can muster up. In all the 50 rallies he has carried out across the country, he deemed all those in the current government as thieves and miscreants who removed him from the position which God ordained for him. His self-righteous and holier-than-thou attitude just makes him increasingly problematic. The problem with Khan is that he has the qualities of a dictator who is stuck in a democracy. It won’t be long until his blind followers realize the man, just like others, only wants absolute power and is not a force that would work for the betterment of people. He was given three years to prove himself to the nation. However, all he did was take the country to rock bottom. Not only does he refuse this, but he has also now become a nuisance to a government that is trying hard to work towards righting its wrongs. With his attitude and plans, it is unlikely that he will get out of the way anytime soon. Even in PML-N’s earlier tenure, he set up camp in Islamabad, which disrupted numerous activities that were going to become a part of a plan for the country’s progress.

In his rallies, the former prime minister asked for absolute support and called all those who disagreed with him, traitors. He put forward this idea as if Pakistan and Imran Khan were synonymous with each other, and if one does not support either of the entities, naturally they won’t support the other. With Imran Khan, such expectations can be attached, as even as a cricket player he had a mind of his own and was not categorized as a team player. He also said that all those who are against him are either animals or traitors, hinting at the idea that only those with intellectual awareness understand what Khan has to say.

Not only has he deemed his rivals, traitors, but he has also called them and their supporters sinners and polytheists who are out of the bounds of Islam due to their allegiance to parties other than the PTI. Only a man who thinks of himself as the chosen one can say such things. Khan needs to reevaluate his stance and think over what he says as soon enough his words will turn more and bitterer and that will do no good to him, his supporters or Pakistan.

Currently, Khan is agitating the population so that a revolt can take place. His call for action against key institutions of the country will only wreak havoc on the already torn country. At a time when Pakistan needs everyone to come together as one and show solidarity, this particular man has made it his life’s mission to destroy any semblance of sanity left in the society. In essence, he is calling for the abandonment of the carefully crafted constitution of Pakistan that does not allow such lowly acts to take place in the political arena.

If his supporters, who are in mass, pay heed to his call for the abandonment of the constitution, Pakistan could see itself back in 1971. Khan is fundamentally calling for revolt from within institutions and the country at large. Such greed for power will destroy the country and the welfare of its people, and Imran Khan has no right to do that. Therefore, he must abandon his lowly tactics and accept defeat. His gutless use of religion for political gains shows that he will stoop to any level and use anything in the handbook of political manipulation for power. Khan has lost power, he has lost his seat and, after the alleged audio leaks, he has also lost his credibility in front of his supporters. He must abandon the use of vile attacks on prestigious institutions such as the Election Commission and the military, as it only shows that he has no respect for anything or anyone. Moreover, his insinuating moves for the seat of the prime minister through hidden means have become quite obvious, and he must not indulge in them further.

Khan rose to power as a pure man, who only wanted to work for the people and make Pakistan great again. But instead of restoring Pakistan’s former glory, he was only able to increase problems at all levels of public office. Despite his so many wrongs, it does not mean he was worse than his predecessors. His tenure had so many good things too. That is why he regained popularity once he was ousted. He must value his power, and wait for next elections.
