Imran Khan petitioned LHC to quash cases against him

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan on Thursday petitioned the Lahore High Court (LHC) to dismiss all cases brought against him because they are allegedly politically motivated.

PTI Secretary General Asad Umar has also filed a petition under Article 199 of the Constitution. In each of the instances, the high court has also been urged to grant bail to the PTI leader. Petition was filed through attorneys Salman Safdar and Sameer Khosa.

Imran Khan since his removal from the prime minister’s office in April of last year following a no-confidence vote was charged with several cases, including terrorism and misdeclaration of assets.

The PTI has named the federal government, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the prime minister, the interior minister, the acting chief minister, the Punjab IGP, the Anti-Corruption Department, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) as respondents in the case.

Asad Umar claimed in a statement that they had petitioned the high court to stop retaliatory actions that were part of a coordinated effort to prevent Imran Khan from participating in elections.

He said that evidence of Khan’s life threats and human rights violations had also been presented to the court.

The “complete petition,” he claimed, had covered every angle, and he added that the fake cases had violated fundamental constitutional rights. He pleaded with the judge to throw out every case.
