Imran Khan requests SC to review decision on Qasim Suri’s ruling on no-confidence motion

PTI chairman says several loopholes exist in court's April 9 ruling that need to be reviewed

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday challenged the Supreme Court’s decision against former deputy speaker Qasim Suri’s ruling regarding the no-confidence motion.

The former prime minister has filed a plea in the SC against its decision in the suo motu notice.

On April 3, the former deputy speaker disallowed the vote of no-confidence against the then prime minister Imran Khan to be held in the National Assembly arguing that it was part of an international conspiracy.

In his plea, Imran Khan said that the apex court had ordered on April 7 to proceed with the voting on the no-confidence motion on April 9. He argued that “there are several loopholes in the court’s April 7 decision that need to be reviewed”.

The PTI chairman said that the deputy speaker implemented Article 5 of the constitution during the proceedings of the National Assembly.

On May 9, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial said that he took the suo motu notice of the deputy speaker’s ruling after holding consultations with 12 judges of the Supreme Court.

In its decision, the Supreme Court restored the National Assembly after it acknowledged the government’s decision to dissolve the assembly and NA deputy speaker Qasim Suri’s ruling to be against the constitution.

The SC had directed the then National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser to summon the session on Saturday (April 9) and hold voting on the no-confidence motion against the premier.
